Description
The Kayori are known almost entirely through Pairborn journals, interviews, and civic records. Because the Kayori preserved their traditions orally rather than in writing, every surviving account reflects the perspective of a community that regarded them with suspicion and hostility.
Summary
The Kayori are an isolated woodland community descended from Pairborn's earliest settlers. Living beyond the valley, they developed distinct customs, ritual practices, and beliefs revolving around the Under Hum, generally understood as a reinterpretation of The All.
Historical Context
The Kayori emerged during Pairborn's earliest generations as some settlers left the valley while twin births became increasingly common. Their communities developed independently over the following decades, preserving traditions that gradually diverged from those practiced in Pairborn.
Recorded Observations
Pairborn records repeatedly associate the Kayori with ritual coverings of river clay, woven woodland shrines, and devotion to the Under Hum. The same records accuse them of raids, kidnappings, murders, and other acts of violence spanning nearly two centuries.
Interpretations
Because nearly every surviving account was written by Pairborn residents, these descriptions must be read within the context of a long-standing hostility between the two communities. Distinguishing historical observation from religious prejudice remains one of the central challenges of this archive.
